Event Spaces FAQ

BOOKING

How do I book an event space?

Visit the Event Space page to fill out a request form for your desired space.

What is the difference between a meeting room and event space?

Meeting Rooms are smaller enclosed rooms typically used for board meetings, team meetings, and smaller activities. You can view information here.

Event Spaces are larger open-concept spaces, or a combination of open-concept space with Meeting Rooms, You can view more information here.

Can I have extra time to set up and clean up?

The time of your booking with us should include time that you need to set up and clean up your event. This will be coordinated between your team and ours.

What is your cancellation policy?

In order to be courteous to the extensive CSI community, please note that we require a minimum of ten (10) business days advance notice to cancel any Event space bookings without financial penalty. If this time requirement is not met, CSI will charge the full amount of the booking.

How do I pay for the rental?

CSI will send you an electronic invoice for the amount of the rental which will include payment instructions. Any questions about invoicing can be directed to accounts@socialinnovation.ca.

Are there any time restrictions on rentals?

Events may not run past 11pm, though your team can stay on site past that time to clean up. Most Event Spaces also function as Member Lounges during business hours, and are unavailable until 5pm on weekdays – the exception is the Garage at CSI Annex and the Atrium at 192 Spadina.

Do you have to rent a minimum number of hours?

We require a three-hour minimum rental for event spaces.

Food/Bar

Who are your recommended caterers?

A list of our Recommended Caterers are listed in the next section. CSI Annex is also home to the CSI Cafe. You can order from CSI Cafe here.

Can we serve my own food at my event?

Yes. All CSI Event Spaces include access to a shared kitchen, including our dishware/cutlery/glassware/platters/prep items (cutting boards, etc). We have on-site dishwashers that we ask you to use to clean up what is used for your event.

Due to the shared nature of our kitchens, we cannot guarantee how many items will be available at any given time. It is best to coordinate with the CSI team based on which Event Space you book to get the best idea of what is available. You are welcome to get additional items for your event such as rental items or disposable items – if the latter, we ask you to consider biodegradable items.

Do you have a landmark fee?

No!

Can I serve alcohol at my event?

So you want to serve alcohol at your event?

Sounds good! And great news, the CSI Cafe at our Annex location is licensed for all your bar needs. Here’s how it works: if your event falls within our business hours (7am-7pm) there’s no charge other than for the drinks you and your guests buy. Wahoo! If your event falls outside of our business hours we require your group to purchase a minimum number of drinks. For events of 30 people or less we require a minimum of 10 drinks per hour, and for events of 30 people or more we require a minimum of 20 drinks per hour. Don’t make the minimum? You simply pay the difference (average drink price is $7). If you’d like to go ahead with bar service for your event please our Cafe Manager Alma directly (alma@socialinnovation.ca).

For alternate bar arrangements please speak with our Events team, and for events at our other locations you are required to obtain an SOP from the LCBO and provide smartserv bar staff. Cheers!

Can we use our own team to staff our bar?

At CSI Annex, we ask that the CSI Cafe bar team handle alcohol service under our license. At CSI Regent Park, CSI 192 Spadina, and CSI 215 Spadina you are permitted to staff your bar with your own team, provided they are smart serve certified and have their cards on them during the bar service.

Space/Layout/Amenities

How many people can really fit in the space?

It really depends on your event. You can see the general capacities for each space on our event space page.

It’s always recommended to speak with the CSI team about your specific event to see if the space will work for your event. Generally, our spaces are considered small to medium sized.

How is the event space laid out?

Each space is different. Please reference the event space page for specific information on each space.

Will my room be set up for me the way I need it?

CSI spaces are DIY in nature – set up and tear down/clean up are the responsibility of your team, which we will go over in-person at the site visit – so make sure you have enough people to help out! The CSI Event Staff on site will be available to set up any equipment you have rented from us, answer questions about the building, show you where things are located, tell you the wifi password, and generally offer CSI presence so you can focus on your event.

What furniture is included in my booking?

Most furniture and amenities that are located in the space you are renting are included in your rental. For most spaces, this includes tables and chairs, and for some spaces includes couches.

You are welcome to arrange for additional deliveries to supplement what we have. Please arrange with us beforehand so we can coordinate deliveries at each office.

Will I have access to wifi?

Each space comes with free wifi. Your CSI Event Staff will let you know what the network and password are.

What equipment do I have access to?

All Event Spaces come with projectors and microphones available for rent. Each item is $25 for rentals less than 4 hours, and $50 for rentals of 4 or more hours. Each space is also able to play background music through our sound system.

You are welcome to bring your own equipment – you may use CSI’s projector screens for free.
