Recognize the early signs of depletion, protect your energy, and make more sustainable choices before stress turns into burnout.
Burnout rarely happens all at once. More often, it builds quietly while people keep going, keep meeting expectations, and keep telling themselves they just need to push through a little longer.
At first, you may still be functioning. You may still be doing good work. But underneath, the signs can begin to show: lower energy, less patience, more dread, reduced motivation, or the sense that it is getting harder to care about things that used to matter.
That does not mean you are weak or failing. Often, it means you have been carrying too much for too long without enough recovery, support, or space to replenish yourself.
This session is about noticing those patterns before they go too far. You’ll reflect on what may be draining your energy, what genuinely helps restore it, and what small changes could help you stay effective without running yourself into the ground.
In this session, you will:
-
Recognize some of the early signs that your energy may be wearing thin
-
Reflect on what may be draining you and what may be restoring you
-
Explore why it can be hard to slow down, even when you know you need to
-
Consider how to make more sustainable choices in demanding times
-
Identify one small step you can take to protect your energy in the week ahead
This session is for professionals who want to protect their energy before stress, pressure, or over-responsibility go too far.
Note: This is a prevention-oriented learning session. It is designed to help people notice early warning signs and make more sustainable choices before stress becomes more serious. It is not a substitute for medical, psychological, or workplace support for those already experiencing significant burnout.

This event is part of Staying Strong Through Change and Uncertainty, a six-week community learning series hosted by the Centre for Social Innovation and delivered by Career Aviators. It is designed to help business owners and professionals stay grounded, think clearly and keep contributing through the growing change and uncertainty we are all experiencing in our work, businesses, families and communities.
The series responds to the pressures many people are facing right now, including changes in work and technology, financial strain, climate concerns, conflict, career transitions and burnout. Each session offers practical tools for understanding these pressures and navigating change with greater clarity, resilience and purpose.
About Your Facilitator
Wayne Greenway has spent his career developing practical ways to strengthen psychological resilience in people facing profound uncertainty and change.
His early work focused on seriously ill children and youth and their families. He developed family-oriented, multi-system programs for paediatric teaching centres and held a faculty position with Queen’s University’s Faculty of Medicine for 16 years.
Wayne later applied this work with military families, people living with neurodegenerative disease, and professionals navigating career uncertainty. He is the creator of The Phoenix Series, a practical, research-informed program that helps people manage self-doubt, make sound decisions, and move forward through challenging periods of change.
