Stay focused and persistent when traditional job search falls short.
Many professionals were taught a familiar approach to job search: look for roles that seem interesting, think about your relevant experience, send in your résumé, and wait for the call.
Sometimes that still works.
But for many professionals, the old playbook is producing more frustration than results.
You may be applying, customizing, networking, checking job boards, and trying to stay positive — but still getting little response. That can feel discouraging, especially when you know you have strong experience and something valuable to offer.
This session is about stepping back and looking at job search more strategically.
When the market changes, persistence still matters. But persistence works best when it is focused, evidence-based, and connected to how hiring actually happens now.
In this session, you will:
-
Recognize why some familiar job search advice may no longer be enough
-
Explore how to become more focused in the roles you pursue
-
Consider how to show stronger evidence of your fit and value
-
Look at why networking needs to be more than asking people about openings
-
Identify one part of your job search that may need a strategy reset
This session is for professionals who want to stay persistent without wasting energy on approaches that are no longer working.
You will leave with a clearer way to think about job search and practical next steps for making your strategy more focused, credible, and effective.

This event is part of Staying Strong Through Change and Uncertainty, a six-week community learning series hosted by the Centre for Social Innovation and delivered by Career Aviators. It is designed to help business owners and professionals stay grounded, think clearly and keep contributing through the growing change and uncertainty we are all experiencing in our work, businesses, families and communities.
The series responds to the pressures many people are facing right now, including changes in work and technology, financial strain, climate concerns, conflict, career transitions and burnout. Each session offers practical tools for understanding these pressures and navigating change with greater clarity, resilience and purpose.
About Your Facilitator
Wayne Greenway has spent his career developing practical ways to strengthen psychological resilience in people facing profound uncertainty and change.
His early work focused on seriously ill children and youth and their families. He developed family-oriented, multi-system programs for paediatric teaching centres and held a faculty position with Queen’s University’s Faculty of Medicine for 16 years.
Wayne later applied this work with military families, people living with neurodegenerative disease, and professionals navigating career uncertainty. He is the creator of The Phoenix Series, a practical, research-informed program that helps people manage self-doubt, make sound decisions, and move forward through challenging periods of change.
