Girls on Boards is putting forward a new vision for governance in Canada. By placing experienced emerging leaders (“Young Directors”) from diverse backgrounds at the board table, Girls on Boards is building the new generation of decision-makers.

Young Directors receive world-class training in governance and financials, fundraising and problem-solving, personal and team leadership. When assigned to a board, each Young Director is supported by a partnered board mentor (“mentor”) and a volunteer coach (provided by G(irls)20).

Girls on Boards is currently looking for women-identifying and/or non-binary professionals with governance and/or mentoring experience to join our current cohort as a Coach for one year.

Coaches support Young Directors during their one-year term on a board. They help young leaders develop their professional and personal goals and assist them in navigating issues related to the program.

Coaches will be matched with a Young Director at the beginning of their board placement. Please note that board dates are staggered and will begin in Summer/Fall 2021.

What are we asking?

As a coach, we ask you to commit one-year to:

  • Complete the coaching program, with the assistance of a coaching handbook
    • First three 3 months: meet twice monthly (1-2 hours per meeting)
    • Ensuing months: once a month (1-2 hours per meeting)
    • Meet with Young Director and their Board Mentor three times during their board placement (1-2 hours per meeting)
  • Attend the Coach welcome and onboarding session (1-2 hours)
  • Attend G(irls)20’s Equity on Board training. Upon completion, all participants will receive a certificate and LinkedIn badge (3 hours)
  • Participate in Girls on Boards’ program evaluation (one survey and one interview)
