Consultant Required for Data Visualization Project

About Us

The Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance (GHFFA)
is a partnership between the Regional Municipalities and Federations of
Agriculture in Niagara, Peel, Halton, York, and Durham, and the cities of
Hamilton and Toronto, Conservation Authorities, the Greenbelt Fund, the
University of Guelph, Durham College and Niagara College, the OFA, the Holland
Marsh Growers and members of the food industry. In 2020, the GHFFA released
their 5-year Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Action Plan, which identifies
pathways for a more integrated and coordinated approach to food and farming
viability in the area to ensure that the Golden Horseshoe retains, enhances and
expands its role as a leading food and farming cluster.

The Project Scope

ConnectON (www.connecton.ca) is a project of the GHFFA and
is a geo-mapped database of all food and farming assets in Ontario. The tool has been developed for use by municipal
economic developers and planners who use the information for developing
data-driven policies to support food processing, agricultural production and
food retailing in the province. The
purpose of this project is to further substantiate the significant contribution
of the agriculture and agri-food sector in the Greenbelt/Greater Golden
Horseshoe (GGH) and to support municipal economic developers and planners by
establishing a standard set of indicators and data from ConnectON and other
sources to evaluate the scope and economic value of the agri-food value chain
at the municipal scale.

To increase the utility of the
ConnectON database, the Alliance seeks to develop an interactive dashboard that
would contain defined data from other sources – ie Statistics Canada, Workforce
Data, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs etc. The additional data will assist municipal
staff in providing a more fulsome analysis of the data pertaining to the
agri-food sector of the municipality.

Factors to be considered for the dashboard include:

·
Number of farms and average farm size (Stats
CAN; ConnectON)

·
Total land in crop production (Farm Credit
Canada and MPAC reports)

·
The number of jobs linked to agriculture and
agri-food businesses (Stats CAN)

·
The top 10 farm types (Stats CAN)

·
The economic significance of the agriculture
and agri-food sector

o Total
gross farm receipts (Stats CAN)

·
Workforce vacancies (Workforce data)

·
Agricultural building permits (Municipal data)

·
Number of agri-food assets (ConnectON)

·
The diversity of businesses and services that
support agriculture and agri-food

o Number of
food and beverage processors

o Agricultural
support industries

·
Other factors to be determined in discussion
with municipal stakeholders.

The Dashboard must be developed to be maintained and updated over
time as new data becomes available.

Final Deliverable

Once the Dashboard is finalized based on feedback from project
advisors, the Consultant will provide a train-the-trainer workshop to GHFFA
staff on the use and maintenance of the Dashboard tool.

proven experience in dashboard development and connecting sources of data to an
interactive dashboard. In addition, the
