Position: Environmental Justice Program Manager

Job Term: 12 Months, Full-Time Contract (with the possibility of renewal)

Location: Remote work from Ontario, Canada

Salary: $55,000 – $60,000 commensurate with experience (negotiable)

Benefits: Extended health benefits available after 3-month probation period

Reporting to: Executive Director and Program Managers

Anticipated Start Date: October 2023

Travel Requirements: Limited travel within Canada

About the Opportunity

Level is seeking a dynamic individual who is creative, enthusiastic, results-driven, and capable of leading our new Environmental Justice Program efforts. Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Social Justice Program Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Manage the New Environmental Justice Program:

  • Oversee delivery and expansion of the Environmental Justice Program.
  • Level’s Environmental Justice Program (“EJP” or “the Program”) is an environmental education initiative designed to empower youth aged 11 – 18 with knowledge of environmental issues in Canada and the skills to advocate for environmental justice in their communities.
  • Conduct outreach, expansion, training, and program support and management for the Program.
  • Engage in outreach initiatives to form partnerships with like-minded organizations, the education sector, youth centres, and youth.
  • Develop training and policy materials to maintain the integrity of the Program and meet community needs.
  • Identify and recommend strategies to implement the Program across Canada.
  • Draft reports to funders on the progress and impacts of the program.
  • Modify and redevelop the Program as needed, based on participant feedback and consultations.
  • Conduct evaluations, surveys, and interviews and track the Program’s success annually and over the life cycle of the Program.
  • Gather anecdotes, photos, and stories to report on and promote the Program.

2. Facilitator/Volunteer Management:

  • In consultation with the Executive Director and Program Managers, recruit, interview and select well-qualified Program Facilitators, Program Coordinators, and volunteers.
  • Program Facilitators, Program Coordinators, and volunteers are made up of university students, law students, or legal professionals.
  • Program Facilitators are responsible for facilitating the program in different locations.
  • Program Coordinators support the Program Facilitator in program logistics, scheduling, and communications.
  • Volunteers support the Program Facilitators in education and mentorship activities with youth program participants.
  • Train and mentor Program Facilitators, Program Coordinators, and volunteers.
  • Ensure that mentor Program Facilitators, Program Coordinators, and volunteers report on program and record of hours worked.
  • Initiate Program Facilitator, Program Coordinator, and volunteer appreciation events/opportunities.

3. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Together with the Executive Director and Program Managers, organize and execute a fundraising event twice a year.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Level’s staff, Board of Directors, Advisory Boards, volunteers, legal community, school boards, educators, youth, Elders, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend networking and other events to promote Level’s brand.
  • Generally, act as an ambassador of Level’s mission, vision, values and goals.

4. Communications:

  • Develop, establish, and implement a strong communications strategy.
  • Support social media strategy and promote Level’s mission and initiatives via Level’s website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter platforms, through storytelling, photographs and video content.
  • Assist with creating and managing online ads through Google AdWords, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Draft quarterly newsletter and other emails for online network.
  • Create and oversee social media campaigns aimed at garnering support and donations for Level’s programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in law, social justice, education, or related sector.
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations/social enterprises.
  • Experience with justice education program development and delivery.
  • Has a good understanding of how to tailor messages for different social media channels.
  • Comfort with writing various materials that help garner media coverage and story generation.
  • Knowledge and experience with staff/volunteer management.
  • Strong and creative research and writing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative, friendly attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and under own direction.
  • Interest in social justice.
