Fundraising Officer

*see the posting on our website here*

We Animals Media (WAM) brings visibility to hidden animals through compelling photojournalism. As the world’s leading animal photojournalism agency, it is our mission to document the stories of animals in the human environment — those used for food, fashion, entertainment, and experimentation — and to connect those stories to the individuals and organizations who can amplify their reach.

Our growing network of award-winning photographers and videographers extends throughout the world, capturing images from a broad and diverse spectrum of animal industries. Together, we have created the world’s most comprehensive collection of animal photojournalism. This globally accessible resource is made available for free to anyone working to inspire compassion, conversation and change.

For more information on how We Animals Media plans to expand its impact in the years ahead, please explore the We Animals Media 2022-2023 Strategic Plan.

We are looking for a Fundraising Officer to join our team. This role will oversee the growth and stewardship of our individual donor base, working closely with our Founder & President and Communications Director to develop digital campaigns that increase our monthly and one-time donations to support our animal photojournalism. The Fundraising Officer will be responsible for developing our annual digital fundraising plans, setting quarterly targets, managing our fundraising platforms, and interacting with our current and potential donor base. The ideal candidate will be a data-driven self-starter excited to fund WAM’s mission to bring visibility to hidden animals.

Job Details

  • Type of employment: Permanent, up to full time (25-40 hours per week depending on candidate availability and preference). We have scope to expand or narrow this role to suit the candidate’s needs.
  • Reports to: Founder & President
  • Location: Remote, based in Canada. Exceptional candidates outside of Canada will be considered.
  • Salary: $70,000 CAD full time (prorated if working less than full time).
  • Start date: Ideally March 2023
  • Application deadline: January 31st, 2023

As an ideal candidate for this role you are:

  • Excited about WAM’s mission. You believe that documenting animal stories is critical and an essential component of positive change, and can easily convince others of that too.
  • Detail oriented. Detailed record keeping is your jam.
  • Data-driven. You’re motivated to know what works and why, and are keen to test new ideas.
  • A self-starter who will bring ideas and suggestions to the table and proactively ask for information (vs waiting for instructions or information to come to you). You’re also happy to receive specific instructions to implement something.
  • Collaborative. You believe working with others helps bring your ideas to the next level.
  • Good with receiving feedback and direction. Sometimes a lot, sometimes a little!
  • Good with words. Your writing is clear, interesting, authentic and tuned to its audience.
  • A friendly and timely communicator. You enjoy speaking with donors, both current and potential. People like communicating with you and you do so in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual digital fundraising plans to increase and diversify WAM’s individual donor revenue, including monthly, one-time, and major gifts to achieve WAM’s fundraising goals
  • Maintain all digital fundraising platforms including our donor database (Kindful) and gift processing workflow, ensuring all information and preferences are up-to-date; manage Paypal and Patreon donations (including perks)
  • Develop and implement digital campaigns and goals for increasing We Animals Allies monthly members; cultivate Peer-to-Peer opportunities; expand our Legacy Giving and Aeroplan giving programs
  • Managing the donor journey within our digital platforms (web and stock platform)
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to draft and refine fundraising communications to ensure consistency in tone and coordination in outreach calendar
  • Analyze Mailchimp and donation data to make improvements for future fundraising initiatives
  • Identify and establish long-term relationships with prospective donors
  • Work alongside the Founder & President to communicate with, cultivate and maintain healthy relationships with existing donors
  • Proactively set up meetings between the Founder & President and current and prospective donors, looking ahead to travel plans and connection opportunities
  • Manage annual fundraising budgets including forecasting and reporting variances against targets
  • Provide monthly reports and analyses of fundraising data against annual targets to inform decision making
  • Coordinate with our Fiscal sponsor for large international gifts; submit documentation
  • Respond to donor or potential donor inquiries
  • Monitor Kindful, Patreon and Paypal for lapsed payments; follow up with donors
  • Organize and send thank you notes where appropriate
  • Occasionally represent WAM at industry conferences
  • Things you might do, depending on skill and need:
  • Identify grant opportunities and coordinate the grant application process
  • Draft grant applications
  • Organize and execute fundraising events

Qualifications
