We are currently seeking the ideal candidate to fill the position of: People Operations Manager (12-Month Leave Coverage)

The People Operations Manager will support the Senior Leadership Team in advancing organizational culture and values, which includes helping to foster an environment where people are challenged and enabled to do their best work and where everyone can make a difference. FoodShare’s People Operations Manager will be responsible for helping to find, develop, motivate, and retain the team at FoodShare. They will lead and support initiatives, activities, and programs that help employees be safe and productive at work, from the moment they’re hired to the moment they leave, such as orientation and onboarding, training and development, performance management, benefits, and offboarding. They will support FoodShare’s work to embed food justice into all our work, including our training and hiring practices. Working with the Senior Leadership Team and fellow managers, they will be responsible for managing all human resources related processes at FoodShare.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Oversee human resource administrative processes, including but not limited to recruitment, selection, onboarding, enrolment in FoodShare benefits, training, performance management, offboarding
- Manage the Human Resources Coordinator, which includes ensuring all day-to-day human resources activities are conducted in accordance with policies, protocols, and legal standards
- Ensure consistent, equitable, effective hiring and recruitment practices and application of policies
- Oversee the development of the annual training calendar and offerings, including developing and/or sourcing training
- Analyze human resource data and metrics to track goal achievement
- Oversee onboarding, development, discipline, and offboarding processes with applicable supervisor and Human Resources Coordinator
- Assist the Senior Leadership Team in developing new policies, procedures, and updates that relate to the HR Policy Manual and other staff functions; provide guidance on people related issues and policies across the company
- Support the implementation of human resources related items from FoodShare’s internal action plans (i.e Combating Anti-Black Racism Action Plan, Body Positivity Action Plan)
- Ensure policies and practices are in compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations
- Provide ongoing support to the People and Culture Committee
- Provide support and consultation across the organization on complex issues, supporting staff, managers, and directors in all related areas including: recruitment and selection, performance management, progressive discipline, employment classification, accommodations, staff relations, and people development
- Provide useful data to help guide decision making, and allow the organization to scale effectively and efficiently
- Oversee implementation of new Human Resources Information System
- Manage job evaluation process
- Conduct internal investigations
- Build internal knowledge management capacity
- Collaborate with the Manager of Marketing and Communications to oversee the preparation of the internal newsletter to support ongoing internal communication
- Provide reports and presentations as required
- Attend meetings and events as directed
- Represent FoodShare as a contributing member of a growing and dynamic team
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in human resources
- A degree in Human Resources or a related field and/or CHRP designation may count towards years of experience
- 1+ year of experience with supervising and/or managing employees
- Experience with and/or ability to learn and implement:
- Management and tracking of HR information, including applicant tracking
- Full cycle recruitment
- Coordination and design of employee onboarding and offboarding
- Training, development, and performance
- Employee engagement and satisfaction
- Job analysis and/or evaluation
- Overseeing Employee Benefits Programs
- WSIB claims
- ROE obligations
- Application of the Employment Standards Act
- Workplace investigations
- Workplace accommodations
- Integration, development, and/or implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion across HR functions
- System implementation, ideally specific to HR information systems
- Policy development, writing, and/or interpretation
- G-Suite (or equivalent)
- Commitment to principles of food justice and equity
- Exceptional interpersonal and listening skills with a deep ability to understand what motivates people
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an effective, mindful, articulate, and compelling manner
- A high level of integrity for handling sensitive and confidential information
- Exceptional judgment, strong initiative, and a quick learner with strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
- Highly motivated and efficient, with the ability to execute and manage a diversity of tasks, activities and projects
- Independent, reliable, and responsible
- Experience with anti-racism and anti-oppression training in the workplace is an asset
- Experience with harm reduction and/or trauma informed practice is an asset
- Experience in hybrid workplaces in which some employees are remote and others are on-site is an asset
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
Salary: $66,500/year for 37.5 hours per week*
Benefits: 4 weeks of paid vacation, 1-2 weeks paid winter shutdown, 10 paid personal days, 20 paid wellness/sick days per calendar year (pro-rated based on start and end date); extended health benefits with no waiting period*

Anticipated Dates: September 19, 2022 to September 15, 2023
Location: Hybrid: Occasional travel (~1x/quarter) to the FoodShare office and other locations is expected until our COVID-19 protocols are lifted. Once lifted, this role is expected to operate from the FoodShare office a few days per week and from other sites occasionally, which will be discussed with the supervisor.

- The hiring committee will conduct first round interviews with selected candidates. Candidates will be sent the interview questions 48 hours in advance of their scheduled interview. Candidates are welcome, but not expected or required, to send any questions they have for the hiring committee in advance of the interview. These interviews usually occur about 4 weeks after the application deadline. In recognition of the time and labour of preparing for and attending an interview, FoodShare financially compensates interviewees at a fixed rate of $75 per interview.
- The hiring committee may conduct a second round of interviews, which may include a pre-interview assignment, which would be compensated.
- HR will conduct reference checks for the candidate they intend to extend an offer to. This process usually takes about 1 week.
- HR will send the selected candidate an Employment Agreement, which the candidate will have time to review and return.
