Program Manager, Education (Contract)


Evergreen is currently seeking a Program Manager for a 12-month contract (parental leave coverage), to oversee nature-based play and learning programs primarily at our flagship site, Evergreen Brick Works. About the Role: 

Evergreen Program Managers are critical to the development and delivery of Evergreen’s Programs, and have the knowledge, experience and confidence to lead teams and actively engage others in this process. With well-developed project management skills, the Program Manager, Education, oversees the planning and execution of Evergreen’s Visiting School Program, as well as our Professional Development offerings for Educators, among other related initiatives, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and with maximum mission impact.

With oversight of a dynamic team of Program Officers, Coordinators and Outdoor Educators, and a mandate to collaborate with peers towards shared organizational goals, the Program Manager is a key leader around the Evergreen Brick Works management table. This role prioritizes good communication, effective people management and positive workplace culture. This is a 12-month contract (parental leave cover) with the possibility of an extension. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement action plans and continuously manage tasks, responsibilities and projects against timeframes, budget, strategic priorities and organizational values
  • Work with the Director to proactively manage scope, time, costs and risk
  • Track measures of success, review program milestones, outcomes and impact, and ensure proper evaluation and reporting
  • Undertake people management responsibilities in a thoughtful and professional manner
  • Collaborate with internal partners to effectively promote Evergreen’s programs and share stories of impact 
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other teams (e.g., facilities and events) on site at Evergreen Brick Works to plan and deliver site-based programming
  • Develop and manage excellent working relationships with internal and external partners, co-designing, implementing and evaluating programs in partnership 
  • Facilitate important meetings internally and externally using human-centered design methods 
  • Mentor others and take an active role in their professional development  
  • Contribute to positive workplace culture and great internal communication
  • Model Evergreen’s core values of sustainability, innovation and connection

About You:

You have the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in program design, development, and delivery.
  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent experience/post-secondary diploma/degree in a related field.
  • Experience with outdoor experiential education approaches
  • Prior experience in facilitation especially with children, youth and adults, partnership development and working with diverse communities and collaborators, including Indigenous organizations and individuals.
  • Demonstrated track record of program design and management, including creating and monitoring work plans and budgets.
  • Experience managing teams and schedules, including seasonal, hourly and part-time staff.
  • Experience with managing health and safety standards with respect to program delivery.
  • Certification/Qualification in project or program management is an asset.
  • Familiarity with design thinking models, software and approaches is an asset.

Additional Information: 

Reporting Relationships:

  • Supervised by: Program Director
  • Supervises: Program Officers, Program Coordinators, Outdoor Educators, and Volunteers 

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work environment, with frequent on-site presence at Evergreen Brick Works as required
  • Regular office hours (with flexibility), with occasional evenings and weekends required in times of heavy deadlines or to attend special events 

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Lifting heavy objects on a regular basis 


  • Full time, 12-month contract (parental leave coverage), with the possibility of extension
  • Target Hire Rate: $73,000 – $77,000/year
  • Employer-paid health and dental benefits package, 3 weeks paid vacation, 3 Personal Days (aka Evergreen Days) and your birthday off, and professional development opportunities; summer hours in July and August (4.5 day work week)
