As a Project Engineer, reporting to the director, you will play a vital role in managing and advancing projects that create and revitalize public places across Canada.

About the Role:
As a Project Engineer in the Planning & Development team, you will be responsible for managing and advancing public space projects across a variety of landscapes and sectors. Working under the guidance of the Director, Planning & Development, you will provide strong project management expertise, including managing external consultants and contractors, to ensure the successful delivery of each project.
Projects will range in scope and size, and span across the public and private spheres, in locations across the country, helping to build a network of critical social infrastructure. Evergreen’s Climate Ready Schools program provides just one example of the type of project this team will champion. The project portfolio will also include a significant role in projects at Evergreen Brick Works, a national showcase for sustainable, inclusive placemaking.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, aligning with Evergreen’s vision and goals.
- Create and manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure projects stay within budgetary constraints.
- Identify potential project risks and implement strategies to mitigate them. This includes utilizing a working knowledge of project structure options and the assignment of roles and responsibilities which best suit the project
- Oversee day-to-day activities of projects, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule and project teams are effectively coordinated with internal staff and external consultants.
- Proactively resolve issues during project execution.
- Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and comply with relevant regulations and codes.
- Manage contracts and coordinate with external vendors, subcontractors, and consultants, ensuring adherence to contract terms and conditions.
- Apply engineering knowledge and technical expertise to address project challenges and find innovative solutions.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- With the help of the project coordinator, maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including plans, reports, and change orders.
- Ensure a smooth project closure, conduct project evaluations, capture lessons learned, and facilitate project handover to relevant stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders, including clients, government agencies, and community members.
- Conduct regular project status meetings and communication with stakeholders, providing updates on project milestones and addressing any concerns.
- Collaborate with the Director, Planning & Development and the Planning and Development team to identify potential project opportunities and assess feasibility based on organizational objectives.
- Act as a key liaison between the Planning & Development team and other internal departments, ensuring effective cross-functional coordination.
- Provide mentorship and support to team members, fostering their professional growth and development in project management skills.

You possess the following qualifications:
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in civil engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience, including a strong track record in successful project management
- Experience with capital project or large-scale private sector construction projects
- Solid knowledge of project inception, conceptual design, design development, project cost estimation, contract management, and procurement processes.
- Project Management certification or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Ability to read technical engineering drawings, enabling effective communication with project team members and consultants.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and prior experience with project management tools, (Evergreen uses Wrike).
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented and proactive approach to project management.

Working Conditions:
- Flexible work location: The Project Engineer can be remote-based, but some on-site presence at Evergreen Brick Works will be required to support site capital revitalization and other local projects.
- Regular office hours are flexible, but work may include some weekends, holidays, and/or evenings.
Contract:
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Salary Range: $80,000 – $90,000
