Senior IT Systems Administrator


 We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior IT Systems Administrator to join Evergreen. The Senior IT Systems Administrator plays a key role within the IT department because reliable IT support is fundamental to the success of our daily operations. The successful candidate will possess strong attention to detail and processes, excellent analytical thinking skills with regard to technology, and a commitment to customer service for internal departments and external clients. The candidate will work well with the IT Department and across other departments to ensure smooth and reliable access to technology.

About the Role:

As a Senior IT Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our organization’s technology infrastructure, including servers, networks, and software systems. Additionally, this role will be accountable in providing 2nd/3rd level support to Evergreen staff, partners, contractors, interns, and volunteers. Your expertise will help ensure the smooth operation of our IT environment, enabling us to fulfill our mission of a place where the world can experience and learn sustainable practices that enable cities of the future.


Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee the organization’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and associated hardware and software components.
  • Monitor and maintain server performance, security, and availability.
  • Plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and migrations as needed.
  • Conduct regular backups and ensure data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.

 Network Administration:

  • Manage the organization’s network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Monitor network performance and optimize network resources.
  • Maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.

 Systems Administration:

  • Administer and maintain software systems, including operating systems, databases, and applications.
  • Install, configure, and update software and hardware components.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers for system maintenance and support.

 Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce IT security policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents, including virus/malware detection and removal.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection and privacy regulations.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

 User Support and Training:

  • Provide technical support to staff members, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Assist in the procurement, setup, and configuration of computer systems and peripherals.
  • Conduct user training and create documentation to promote efficient and secure technology usage.

 Technology Planning and Research:

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends relevant to the non-profit sector.
  • Evaluate and recommend IT solutions that align with organizational goals and budget constraints.
  • Participate in strategic planning for technology initiatives and assist in developing IT budgets.

 Project Management

  • Manages projects assigned by Director, IT. This will include vendor selection, license negotiation, implementation of necessary software, preparing documentation, and providing necessary training.

You have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of related work experience in IT.
  • Proven on-site, hands-on experience as an IT Systems Administrator or similar role.
  • Strong in-person, physical experience and knowledge of network and systems administration, including Windows/Linux servers, Active Directory, Cisco infrastructures, VMWare, etc.
  • Experience using cloud-based technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and its services (e.g., Intune, AWS Cloud Computing)
  • Proficiency in security best practices and experience implementing security measures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide both user support and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Project Management and Constituent Relationship Management databases/software an asset.
  • Linux, MySQL, PHP knowledge and Salesforce Administration are an asset.
  • Experience or familiarity with the non-profit sector is an asset.

  • Supervised by: Director, Information Technology

 Working Conditions:

  • Position is based out of Evergreen’s head office at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto
  • Regular Office hours (flexible), with the possibility of evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Hybrid work arrangements available


  • Full time, permanent
  • Salary: $65,000 – $73,000
  • Employer-paid health and dental benefits package, 3 weeks paid vacation, 3 personal days (aka Evergreen Days) and your birthday off, and professional development opportunities.
