Job Title: Social Innovation Specialist

Reporting to: Program Director, Social Innovation Canada

Department: Labs & Challenges

Location: Remote with quarterly trips to Toronto. Option to work from our office if local to Toronto.

Employment Type: full-time, permanent

Work hours/days: full-time 37.5h/week, Mon-Fri working hours must include 10 to 4pm EST

Compensation: $87,000-$99,000 CAD annually, commensurate with experience, plus benefits after probation period.

About SI Canada

SI Canada is a national charity that supports a network of social innovators: people and organizations with a focus on social and environmental change. We began as a national initiative founded by seven social innovation organizations: Radius (BC), ABSI Connect (AB), Social Enterprise Centre (MB), CSI (ON), La MIS (QC), Inspiring Communities (Atl) and Diane Roussin from the Boldness Project providing Indigenous leadership. SI Canada collaborates with these and other organizations across the country with the goal of strengthening the social innovation ecosystem’s capacity to address the root causes of systems-level problems in Canada. We work to connect innovators with the resources and opportunities they need to solve complex problems and create transformative change.

About the Role

The Social Innovation Specialist  is responsible for  program development, implementation and reporting of SI Canada’s National Social Innovation Labs programming including the management and successful delivery of Transit Oriented Affordable Housing Lab, Arts Sustainability Lab, and others as required. They will also support the development of other innovation approaches including “Challenges”, incubators and accelerators as aligned with our strategic goals. 

As a Social Innovation Specialist, you are a subject matter expert, with advanced knowledge of social innovation approaches, theories and concepts including systems thinking, human centred design, mapping, prototyping, facilitation, and evaluation. You are able to formulate strategies and policies, and have experience successfully managing high level programs and projects. You enjoy contributing to the development of new programs, projects and business solutions. You have significant professional work experience in key roles which may have been combined with formal education. You love helping to solve problems. You are comfortable working remotely, collaboratively and independently. About the Role

In this role you will undertake:

Program development, management and evaluation:

  • Work with our team and partners you will ensure implementation and evaluation of Social Innovation programs and projects including Labs and Challenges 
  • Design and develop innovative projects and programs aligned with our themes and goals
  • Contribute to the creation of developmental evaluation and impact measurement for the programs you are engaged with

Program Implementation

  • Partnerships, stakeholder team recruitment and management –  ensuring team members, stakeholders and funders are informed and engaged
  • Project oversight – ensuring the project activities are aligned with the program goals and objectives
  • Program delivery – ensuring successful execution of program activities and completion of deliverables on-time and on-budget
  • Program facilitation – Overseeing and participating when appropriate as a facilitator, presenter and. prototype coach.
  • Program reporting – overseeing and contributing the the final report and evaluation of program activities
  • Editorial management – Working with the communications team to create consistent messaging and high quality shareable content for the project and beyond. 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience working Social Innovation related programming 
  • Direct experienced in designing and implementing social innovation labs
  • Experience successfully managing high level multi-stakeholder programs and projects
  • Experience working with Government agencies and ministries, community organizations, non-profits and corporations
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in social sciences, business / management, entrepreneurship, public policy, social work, or a related discipline or work related equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the affordable housing sector including a familiarity with innovative financing models and the policy environment is an asset
  • Fluency in French or other languages is an asset.
