Temporary Store Associate (12-month contract)

The Organization: The Ontario Library Association (OLA) is a not-for-profit charity providing a range of services to thousands of members working in library and information sectors across Ontario. Some of these services include educational programming, conferences, a bookstore, and a suite of reading programs. The OLA is a leader in North America among library associations.

The Job: You will be responsible for receiving all incoming shipments, maintaining shipping logs, completing outgoing shipments, and assisting with promotions for The Library Marketplace. This role is performed on site, at the Centre for Social Innovation, 192 Spadina Avenue, Unit 205, Toronto ON, as well as venues across the city.

How will you spend your day?

  • Incoming/outgoing shipments
  • Schedule pickups with customers
  • Work with the Store Manager on purchasing and managing inventory
  • Maintain a clean and organized shipping and receiving area
  • Assist with year-end inventory counts
  • Assist with in-person pop-up stores at events (4-5 per year, including a requirement to work our flagship event from January 29-February 1, 2025)
  • Work with the Store Manager to fulfill purchase orders and subscriptions
  • Assist with product promotion on social media
  • Perform other stockroom duties as needed

Skills and Expertise:

  • Self-starter who can work independently and with the OLA team
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to multi-task in an energetic workplace
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with strict deadlines
  • Superb organization and time management skills
  • Skilled in establishing priorities and managing workload
  • Microsoft Office 365 tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Able to perform moderate manual labor
  • Familiar with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)


  • Fluency in French
  • Experience working with Shopify or other point of sale systems
  • Driver’s license
