The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment is a group of physicians, allied health care practitioners and citizens committed to a healthy and sustainable environment. We believe that the health of our communities fundamentally depends on the health of the ecosystem of which we are a part. CAPE brings its health expertise to environmental issues and is an important voice for environmental health in Canada. We address issues of environmental degradation by educating health care professionals and the public about issues of health and environment, advocating for health-protective environmental legislation, and encouraging public participation in the legislative process. Over the past 20 years we have worked on a variety of campaigns, including several provincial cosmetic pesticide bans, the Ontario coal power phase out, and the closure of Quebec’s Gentilly-2 nuclear plant. We are currently working toward a coal phase out in Alberta and to protect pollinators (and our food supply) from toxic neonicotinoid pesticides.
