I am about to graduate from York University's Master of Arts in Cinema and Media Studies. My major research project is based in Feminist film theory and provides an important discussion about portrayals of women on screen in contemporary popular film as they relate to and impact their spectatorial other. In my career I have had opportunities to contribute to research pertaining to the lack of diversity in the Canadian film and television industries, particularly relating to gender parity. In the future I hope to build off of these experiences by supporting female filmmakers in my work and everyday life. I also hope to develop and facilitate youth programming that encourages young people to question what they see in popular media to open their eyes to some of the biases and stereotypes that are perpetuated by it.
