Writ large, the New School for Social Research's (NSSR) unwritten mission is to produce research agendas that aim to comprehend the rapidly changing social and political world in which we inhabit, and to promote and uphold egalitarian and democratic axioms. As a doctoral candidate in the department of Politics at the NSSR, my work holds these principles dear and my work attempts to shed light on the policy and regulatory failures around housing, and the manner in which racialized conceptions of belonging permeate integration programs for Roma and disadvantaged groups. My aim is to produce research that reveals these protracted situations, but also turns towards models that may promote more equitable and locally grounded housing, development, and cohesion based initiatives.
