Incorporated in 2017, the Shared Path Consultation Initiative (Shared Path, SPCI) is an Indigenous-non-Indigenous organisation focused on the intersection of land use planning processes and Aboriginal and Treaty rights in Ontario. Vision: to work toward a future in which Indigenous voices and rights form a sustained and integral part of the Ontario land-use planning process. Mission: to illuminate the intersection of Aboriginal & Treaty rights, and Indigenous interests, within the urban and regional planning process through education and awareness opportunities for practitioners, academics, and students interested and involved in consultation efforts between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Current Objectives: Bridging legal and knowledge gaps for both municipal planners and Indigenous leadership so all partners can work towards the protection of Aboriginal and treaty rights within the planning process; acting as a catalyst to grow trust between planners, municipal staff, First Nation community members and Indigenous leadership; opening channels for dialogue between Indigenous leadership and municipal planning staff; strengthening and encouraging Indigenous community members and leaders to engage and participate with the municipal planning process in a way that is meaningful to their community.
