CSI

Every Sunday, we curate solutions, stories, community events, jobs, and funding opportunities in our weekly newsletter. Here’s this week’s CSI Network News.

P.S. You might notice that it looks a little more clunky than what you’d normally see in your inbox. If you’d like to see CSI Network News in all its glory (and emailed directly to you at the beginning of every week), please subscribe!

After 16 Months, The CSI Team is Taking A Moment to Breathe

It’s been an overwhelming year and a half, to say the least. That’s why, from July 19 to August 13, the CSI staff team is taking time to recharge and reflect before we reopen (when it’s safe to do so). We’re calling these four weeks CSI Breathes

Rest is key to doing transformative work. As we co-design the future of work, exhaustion from overwork will not be something we take with us. We aren’t closing up shop by any means, but we are committed to collectively slowing down a bit. Read on to find out what this looks like and what CSI Breathes means for our members.

Stories from
the Network

Have Your Work Values and Priorities Changed? You’re Not Alone.

As many of us encounter more and more of the familiar trappings of our pre-pandemic lives, old lifestyle habits, values, and goals may not make sense anymore. Much of this shift is happening at our workplaces.

What has shifted for you? Do you know what’s working for you in your career and what’s not? These answers can be difficult to gage. That’s where Challenge Factory comes in.

It’s Up To Us

The climate emergency requires acting at a speed and scale not seen since the Second World War. The Climate Emergency Unit, led by A Good War author Seth Klein, has begun to meet with government officials to introduce this framework and the policies needed to achieve real emergency scale action.

They’ve created this video that explains four key lessons from Canada’s Second World War mobilization that need to be applied to Canada’s climate response today. And if you want to dive deeper, check out our in-depth conversation with Seth about how we might actually mobilize to fight the climate emergency.

CSI is many things - a coworking space, a non-profit organization, and a launchpad - but, first and foremost, we are a community. A community of innovators, of changemakers, of neighbours, of people putting people and planet first. And the awesome work that our members do, each and every day, never ceases to amaze us! So of course, we do our best to highlight our members whenever possible. Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Molly Bannerman, Director of Women HIV/Aids Initiative (WHAI), a community-based response to HIV and AIDS among cis and trans women in Ontario. Below is an edited summary of our chat, where we discussed the work of WHAI and their latest Collective Action Community Change report.

It's Canadian Innovation Week 2023! This year, we're celebrating with our members and highlighting the world changing work that they do. We're spotlighting just a few of our thousands of members here in the themes of Canadian Innovation Week 2023 - be sure to come by our spaces or join our community to meet the rest of our innovators!

Generally, when we see or hear media about climate change, we’re faced with images of destruction: natural disasters, crumbling infrastructure, rising global temperatures and falling levels of polar ice. And sadly, those are all realities - but there’s another reality, too. The communities coming together to envision, work for, and implement a better and brighter future. To close out Earth Month, we spoke to two people in our community about the role that connection, art, and joy play in the climate sector.
