CSI Network News: How Purpose Construction is building inclusion from the ground up

Every Sunday, we curate solutions, stories, community events, jobs, and funding opportunities in our weekly newsletter. Here’s this week’s CSI Network News.

P.S. You might notice that it looks a little more clunky than what you’d normally see in your inbox. If you’d like to see CSI Network News in all its glory (and emailed directly to you at the beginning of every week), please subscribe!

Hello! Our newsletter, CSI Network News, is going on break, returning Sunday, August 22. Our staff team has decided to collectively slow down and take some (much-needed) time to recharge, aptly called CSI Breathes. Thank you for having us in your inboxes, and we look forward to returning in a month!

Building Inclusion From the Ground Up: A Next Economy Conversation with Kalen Taylor

Kalen Taylor is a serial social entrepreneur and Executive Director of Purpose Construction, a social enterprise that combines social housing development and rehabilitation with trades training and employment run by and for people underrepresented in the skill trades.

For our latest Next Economy Conversation, Kalen sat down with Tonya to discuss how they are “building circular systems from the ground up,” integrating affordable housing, employee social enterprise, and social finance into a multi-pronged approach to building the Next Economy.

orange shirt day

We have some big news! The world is changing and so must CSI! We told our members earlier today and now we want to tell you. CSI has made the decision to put 720 Bathurst up for sale and consolidate our operations into CSI Spadina.

In the background, CSI CEO Tonya Surman is speaking into a microphone on the left. In the middle and on the right, a variety of people stand and sit, listening to her speak.
One of the keys to CSI's magic is our Community Animator Program (CAP) and, specifically, the Community Animators themselves! Through this program, we've worked with more than 1,000 exceptional individuals who have each brought a little something different, and a little sparkle, to our spaces. And we're so glad to have had them in our community, because we've learned that each and every one of them has some exceptional talents, skills, and experiences to offer the world!
