Connections at CSI: March

WELCOME TO CONNECTIONS AT CSI, A MONTHLY RECAP OF CSI HOSTED EVENTS AND RITUALS!

These community gatherings are just a few of the many events and workshops organized by the entire CSI community (check out our events calendar for more). Wondering how you can get an invite to all the fun? Check out CSI Membership options for the package that suits you best.

March 20: Innovator Drinks with Friends of the Earth

At this edition of Innovator Drinks, CSI Annex was transformed into a (drumroll please)… photo exhibit! CSI Member Friends of the Earth launched their international photo exhibition, “Transforming our World”, highlighting people around the globe who are changing systems from the ground up. We also had the honour of hearing from Friends of the Earth Canada CEO Beatrice Olivastri about their latest campaigns and initiatives. It was a lovely evening. Join us in reminiscing through the photos below, and learn more about the photo exhibit!

March 22: CSI's 20th Birthday

On March 22, 2004, the Centre for Social Innovation officially registered as a legal entity. And the rest, as they say, is history! Over the past 20 years there have been many thousands of organizations and individuals who have passed through our doors, all working to build a world that puts people and planet first.

We’ll be hosting a big celebration later this year, but we couldn’t let this momentous day pass without a small celebration! CSI founders and early days supporters gathered for a champagne toast at CSI Spadina.

March 27: Welcoming our newest Community Animators

Twice a year, we are lucky enough to meet and work with a new cohort of Community Animators (through our Community Animator Program)! On Wednesday, March 27, we welcomed our Spring 2024 cohort for their first orientation training day at CSI Spadina. These Community Animators are the friendly faces you see at the Welcome Desk, hosting rituals, and around the space as they form new connections and work towards their social impact mission. As part of Wednesday’s training, they were also treated to a special edition of Coffee Chats, and heard from longtime CSI Member, Tina Sweeney of CUSO International.

Our Weekly Rituals

Our weekly rituals (Salad Club, Coffee Chats, Get the Scoop, & Bagel Bonding) play a big part in building community here at CSI! They also usually focus on food, because we believe that revolution starts in the kitchen. Here’s just a smattering of March rituals; it’s tough to capture all the fun when you’re busy eating, drinking, and connecting!

It's Canadian Innovation Week 2024! This year's theme, "Innovate Where You Are", celebrates our members in all of their various stages, industries, and locations. And while you truly can't put our members in a box, we did our best to categorize them into this year's Innovation Week themes. Read on for a highlight on just a few of the thousands of CSI members who are innovating for a better world, and check out their advice to the next generation of innovators and changemakers.

We exist in a world with overlapping crises that we wake up and face everyday. And so the next generation of climate action must tell a different story, and reflect a different reality. A reality where climate investments meaningfully improve the lives of residents, where every community in the country feels connected to the work, where we acknowledge the stakes and get down to the hard work of building a world that breaks down the individualistic silos and shows how much better life could be.
