Seana Irvine
Board Chair
Throughout my 30-year career, I have focused on community-based, participatory design and engagement processes, leading low-carbon redevelopments, launching social enterprises, and strengthening social innovation networks from the local to the international while serving in executive positions for entrepreneurial not-for-profit organizations. From 2018-2021, I had the pleasure of being CSI’s Chief Operating Officer, working closely with Tonya and the team to launch new programs and drive funding, prepare operating plans and annual budgets, build stronger HR practices, align organizational positioning and navigate through the many complexities of the first year+ of Covid-19. Prior to working at CSI, I spent 20 years at Evergreen where I helped launch Evergreen Brick Works as a showcase of innovation and sustainability. In the fall of 2021, I left CSI to start a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Social Research at Trent University where I’m exploring how post-industrial landscapes can be repurposed to create more inclusive cities. I have a Masters in Environmental Planning and have taken leadership courses at Harvard and governance training at Rotman U of T. I serve on several boards encompassing food security, human rights, environmental sector capacity building, and wilderness canoeing. In work and play, I’ve always been committed to creating a people and planet-first world. I’d be honoured to return to CSI in a board role and to help guide the organization into the coming years.
